Silvi Vann-Wall is a gender-diverse podcaster, journalist, award-winning writer and filmmaker from Melbourne, with a body of work that spans criticism, multimedia storytelling and community-centred creative practice.
They currently freelance as a film and TV critic for various publications, including the ABC, and are an active voting member of GALECA, AFCA, and the Crunchyroll Awards.
They served as Film Content Lead at ScreenHub for four years, where they wrote breaking news on the Australian film and TV industry and delivered incisive reviews of new cinema releases and streaming titles. Their reporting drew on a rigorous knowledge of the local sector and a commitment to amplifying emerging and marginal voices.
Silvi has also contributed to several audio projects across major academic institutions. They worked on RMIT Culture Podcasts alongside postgraduate writing and publishing students, and produced high-quality series for the University of Melbourne (‘Eavesdrop on Experts’) and Swinburne University (‘Rise of the Superbugs’). Their own podcast, ‘Pill Pop’, received a Signal Boost grant and co-production deal with the Wheeler Centre.
Their commitment to developing the next generation of screen critics is evident in their mentorship of emerging writers with the Melbourne Women in Film Festival. They are also an accomplished interviewer and public speaker, frequently hosting panels, Q&As and live events, including a series of talks at ACMI for Godzillafest in November 2024.
Silvi’s interests include film, television, chronic illness and video games, which are all reflected in a creative practice centred on thoughtful critique and inclusive storytelling.
Outside of work, they travel widely and perform regularly, enjoying dancing, singing and improvised theatre. They appear in recurring improv comedy shows with The Improv Conspiracy in Melbourne.
